Home Biodiesel Information
Home biodiesel has come into it’s own in the last year with the skyrocketing price of petrol making day to day life harder than ever. It’s never been more important to start taking advantage of all the different ways to save money on gas. So what do I mean by home biodiesel and how can it benefit you?
Making it From Home
Depending on the make of your car, there’s a chance you’ll have the opportunity to install a biodiesel kit for your engine. When we talk about home biodeisel we refer to use of oils like vegetable oil or any other type of cooking oil.
That’s right with the correct device installed on your engine, you have the potential to run your car on this cheap source of fuel.
Process of Making Home Biodeisel
Now you can’t just go and pour the leftover frying oil into your fuel tank, you first need to process it into bio-fuel. There are a couple of ways of doing this and it can get expensive in terms of the initial startup costs.
Centrifuge
When making home biodiesel from old cooking oil, you first need to clean all the leftover sediment out of the oil before you can start processing it. A centrifuge works by spinning incredibly fast and separating the unnecessary sediment from the oil.
It then spits the clean oil out into container ready for processing.
Processing
Once you have yourself some clean cooking oil, it’s now time to start converting it into home biodeisel. Processors can be a little expensive however from my experience I was able to make back the money I originally spent buying a processor in 3 months after calculating the amount of money I was spending before converting to biodeisel.
The ingredients necessary for processing biodeisel are vegetable oil, methanol, lye and water. Oh and electricity to power the equipment. You can pick up methanol and lye from your local hardware store for dirt cheap in case you’re wondering.
So you pour all the ingredients into the processor and start it up. The bioproduct of the ingredients originally placed into the processor is of course our wonderful biodeisel!
I’m not going to go into the technicalities of how this all works but if you want to get started on making your own home biodeisel, I suggest you grab a copy of the book The Essential Home Biodeisel Kit which you can learn more about by Clicking Here.
